The reasons why I would rather spent $50 for a white skirt rather than 5 pair of $10 skirts:
1) Customer services
I'm afraid of being judged when I enter a shop where the girls are all pretty & so "girly". You know lah, as when I enter a Charlotte Russe or Forever 21 to get those $10 skirts (or less!), I feel like those shopkeepers (& the other shoppers) were looking at me like "Eww.. those shoes are nasty!", "Baad haircut!", "Damn girl, put some makeup on..."
My kind of stores: it shouldn't too bright, not too crowded, not too many staffs (damn u Victoria Secrets! So intimidating!), relaxing music, just a smooth nice shopping experience.
I found out the staffs at some stores are usually friendly no matter how "poor" you dress at that time. Perhaps because the staffs at those stores are usually older than the rest of the teenage crews.
Some stuffs that I bought from cutie & cheap shops had gone bad in 3-4 trips to laundry. I'm bad at maintaining clothes, I just dump them all in almighty washing machines. The more expensive one, however, still intact & retain their colors.
3) Time spent
I don't like shopping mall in general. The combination of too many teenagers, too many choices to choose, too many shops to dump your money buying things that I might regret later. That's why I didn't want to spent a lengthy trip to mall to look around getting the best deal. From my experience, my favorite shops always got good stuff that I immediately like. My least fav stores, well, I have to really dig in the stuff (among thousands other items! Gah!) to find what I really like. I concluded one day that I better spent the time to watch DVD or playing games :D
Intimidating stores: Forever 21, Charlotte Russe, Guess, Victoria Secret, Abercrombie & Fitch, American Eagle, Aeropostale
Nice, calm, cool stores: Ann Taylor Loft, Banana Republic, Gap, Old Navy
